Daily Bafflements

• In a so-called “Instagram Rapture,” millions of fake accounts that have previously been marked as “spammy” were suddenly deleted. Fans can mean money, of course, in lucrative endorsement deals. “The singer Justin Bieber lost 3.5 million fans, or 15 percent of his total, according to Mr. Allia’s calculations,” reports the New York Times. “Kim Kardashian lost 1.3 million followers, or 5.5 percent of her fan base on the service.” What a good occasion to read Natasha Vargas-Cooper’s salvo on the Rich Kids of Instagram; the acquisitive self minus the self indeed.
