• Presented without comment, from Baffler contributing editor Eugenia Williamson in Boston Magazine, “A Failed Interview with Macaulay Culkin and Pizza Underground.” Pizza Underground is the name of Culkin’s band; here’s a video of the group in action.

• From a profile of poet and editor Don Share in the LA Review of Books: “‘Language,’ Share tells me, ‘has its devices on us all the time. It’s been abused by politicians and advertisers, and almost every kind of language we have now is either bullshit or ironic. It’s hard to be surprised; it’s hard to be taken aback.’ As a poet and as the editor of Poetry, Share says he’s ‘looking for language that wakes us up.’”

• The American Library Association’s list of “the most challenged books of 2013” includes some expected selections like the violent The Hunger Games and sexy Fifty Shades of Grey, but also some more baffling ones, like fiction by Toni Morrison and Sherman Alexie. Parents and teachers most often challenged the latter because of “offensive language” and “Drugs/alcohol/smoking” (via the Melville House blog).
